Aptos, a new Layer 1 blockchain, aims to build a more reliable and scalable blockchain for all. The founding team was built by Libra (later renamed Diem) team members, the stablecoin project of Meta (former Facebook). It has closed a $200 million “strategic” investment led by a16z, with participation from Tiger Global, Katie Haun, Multicoin Capital, Binance Labs, FTX Ventures and Coinbase Ventures among others, attracting the full attention of the industry.

The Aptos blockchain has been developed over the past three years by over 350+ developers across the globe. It offers new and novel innovations in consensus, smart contract design, system security, performance, and decentralization. The combination of these technologies will provide a fundamental building block to bring web3 to the masses.

Aptos’ highlights

1. New blockchain programming language: The Diem team developed the Move language, and the Aptos team adopts Move to build its ecosystem. Compared to Solidity of Ethereum, Move is more secure and reliable. Moreover, Aptos is expected to be compatible with Solidity, to allow more ETH developers to migrate to Aptos more easily.

2. More robust fault tolerance mechanism: In the past three years, the Aptos team has irritated Byzantine fault tolerance 4 times, the consensus mechanism of Aptos, and sped up the transaction confirmation and enhanced the block stability. The blockchain can run stably even with the failure of 1/3 of validator nodes.

3. More efficient scalability: Aptos is designed with an efficient mechanism to facilitate community voting and speed up execution upgrading. Several major upgrades without shutdown have been executed successfully in the past years, to guarantee the deployment is secure and reliable, thus greatly accelerating the irritation of Aptos and allowing Aptos to take the advantage of time in the quickly changing Web3 world.

4. Key change: Aptos accounts support account key recovery and rotation, to reduce the risks associated with private key compromise, and any account to rotate its private key. Also, to prevent key loss, Aptos is developing a new key recovery technology that can be directly integrated into the blockchain account module.

5. Multi-token gas: Aptos allows users to pay gas fees with kinds of tokens, to avoid transaction rejection due to the shortage of a particular gas token. To realize it, it converts other tokens to Aptos Coins based on the on-chain exchange, sorts out all the transactions based on the standardized gas fees, and confirms the transactions to be executed.

Now Aptos ecosystem has more than 200 projects built on the network, and over 70 NFT projects scheduled to launch. 3.50 million transactions happen on its testnet every day, with 40 transactions per 7s on average.
